Other options include funding for programs that help bring people out of poverty through job training and life skills programs. If you can increase independence and self reliance, you can give people alternatives to crime.
@Nicaru I think the problem is whenever there are state budget cuts; mental health funding is the first to go. "Free" mental healthcare for low income families may help reduce the incidence of violence.
Overall, I think there are more pressing concerns in the world than the issue of marriage equality such as poverty, war, sex slavery, etc. I don't have any clear answers on this topic. My faith says it's a sin, but flawed government shouldn't make that call.
Argument 2 also points out that our country is moving away from Godly principles, but there are many other Christian tenants that are not followed such as corporate greed, gun violence, and international unilateral negotiations.
However, when the issue of same-sex marriage is viewed through a Biblical perspective, argument 2 makes sense within the context of the Church. Therefore, Christians should not celebrate those that turn to homosexuality.
Oddly enough Conservatives disagree with argument 1 because of the violation of their moral values (i.e. their voter base). It is a belief that government should regulate morality and is the final authority on the matter.
Opposing sides to the marriage equality debate are attacking two very different arguments.
Argument 1: Marriage equality is about homosexual couples obtaining the same marriage benefits as heterosexual couples.
@ReDxSiLLy I think that's easier to say if our lives have been easier than others. We don't choose our circumstances, but they do have an impact on our performance. The problem with affirmative action is they made it a race issue instead of a socio-economic issue.
@ReDxSiLLy I think we need to ask why they are less qualified. Is it the systems that were put in place? Look at the inner city school systems. The quality of education is inferior to that of wealthier neighborhoods.
@Thoughtologist What does Genisis 9:5-6 mean to you? I'd be interested in understanding your argument so I can better respond to it. Otherwise, we really don't have anything to discuss unless I'm confused and this is an interview site instead.
@Thoughtologist And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each human being, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of another human being. (Genesis 9:5 NIV)
@Thoughtologist Dominion does not mean exploitation. Dominion should be linked to responsibility. Veganism takes a stand against the cruel treatment of animals and as good stewards of this earth we need to be aware of this evil.
